Paris has not really changed for me. Is this because I'm a bit of a romantic myself? I think if you can imagine a mood, a time past, a certain light on a street, then nothing has changed, because it is in your head, and you'll see it somewhere.... perhaps the one thing that has changed is that people are connected, everywhere there are cell phones, internet...that is a real change, people seem more independent maybe, because of these modern tools, and maybe crabbier too, too much connectivity, too much work?
I still love paris, it is still my favorite city, I haven't been back in two or three years, but I miss it. I don't worry too much about the changes, which will be inevitable, because I think Parisians see and recognize that they have a beautiful city, and I think they know why. I don't think they will let 'the essence' disappear.

Well said. Also, it's easy to romanticize squalor or poverty, just as so many romanticize the life of the "starving artist", but when one has to live it day in day out it soon loses it's romance!
